Well... apart from the whole... people being afraid of things that are different to the point that they'll stop it no matter the cost...

Polygamy as it has existed has become detrimental to society.
Mostly because you typically end up with communities where the richest men take a bunch of women, and you end up with a disproportionate amount of young poor guys with no-one to fuck, and they get all pissed and break stuff.
Also because the rich dudes who get a lot of wives end up not actually raising the kids because they can't be arsed when they have like ten wives to do it for them... and the wives end up hating each other sometimes.

So yeah, in its previous forms, it has had its repercussions.

HOWEVER!... I believe that a very good case could be made that it's not explicitly polygamy that causes these problems, it's gender and social inequality through the lens of polygamy that makes this a problem.

If there are groups of adults that are intelligent, un-coerced, aware of whatever arrangement they have, and faithful to that arrangement... I'd say there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Yea, i kinda figured thats how it went. Theres nothing inherently wrong with it, its just abused by people who do it

But I don't think that's any reason to ban it.

It's like banning loli to protect kids.
Or banning hammers to protect people from getting murdered with hammers.

Don't stamp out things that appear to relate to cruelty... stamp out cruelty.
